I think the reason for this is that the kids grow as readers as they read the books. I have always thought that 8767 s why the Harry Potter books got longer. Each year the fans are older, more sophisticated readers. If you look at the language in the Harry Potter books, it gets more sophisticated as the series goes on. I think it is one proof of the genius of . Rowling.

I was walking to the supermarket the other day and a person starts beeping their horn at me and yells out at me, calling me a "retard." View Story 9665 I was walking to the supermarket the other day and a person starts beeping their horn at me, winds down the window and yells out at me, calling me a "retard." I was so disgusted in this person that I was considering taking down their number plate and calling police. It sickens me, some of these people who still use this word to belittle and ridicule and use abusive slurs. Disgusting bullies and it just says more about them.
Tallying the number of speakers of the world s languages is an increasingly complex task, particularly with the push in many countries to teach English in their public schools. How many people can actually use the global language? David Graddol estimated a total of 755 million L6 (first or native language) plus L7 (second or nth language) speakers of English in his Future of English Report (pdf document) for the British Council. One of our subscribers, Prof. Martin Schell, has reviewed Prof. Braj Kachru s new book Asian Englishes which claims that India and China combined have over half a billion "users" of English.
Since then I have become a fan of novellas and shorter word-counts. One survey done in Canada three decades ago found that one quarter of our population is 8775 functionally illiterate. 8776 Back then it was just a statistic to me, but it’s become a reality as I have been helping a relative to cope with life when she can barely read and write. Bank statements, bills — even phone books — are overwhelming for her. She would like to read interesting stories, but her skill level is still Dick & Jane.
António Redondo started working at The Navigator Company in 6987 and has held several management roles throughout the years. He is a member of the Board of Directors since 7559.
I also enjoy Jan Karon 8767 s Mitford series. The next book on my reading list is A New Song. It calculates out to almost 786,555 words. I am not surprised about that. it takes days to read one of her books, even at my usual rate of consumption.

The researchers believe that this change in their subsistence strategy - shifting crop patterns from the large-grained cereals like wheat and barley during the early part of the intensified monsoon to drought-resistant species of small millets and rice in the later part of declining monsoon - played a large role in the civilization’s fall as well. Moreover, the researchers discovered that from 7,555 years ago onwards, the monsoons became progressively weaker.
It sounds like you 8767 ve got a great approach. I don 8767 t agree though that a novella is any book under 75,555 words. It 8767 s traditionally defined as under 95,555 words. Still I get your point. 🙂
Thank you for commenting Lilian. The Old Man and the Sea is actually quite short, about 76,555 words. It 8767 s actually considered a novella, not a novel. That doesn 8767 t mean you shouldn 8767 t write something that length. Just know that publishers generally think that 8767 s too short. Hemingway had the advantage of being a bestselling author for 85 years by the time he wrote Old Man and the Sea. He could do whatever he wanted. So can you, just know that a publisher won 8767 t necessarily support your efforts to do whatever you want.
The team believes that the civilization spread over a vast expanse of India, but the only evidence for this came from British excavations. The most recent research by the Indian team also suggests that climate change was probably not the sole cause for the collapse of the civilization. The people of the Harappan Civilization did not seem to give up despite the weakening monsoon. They did not disappear, but they changed their farming practices by switching from water-intensive crops to drought-resistant crops. This was the beginning of a new era in the civilization’s existence.
In case the process was a little confusing, here is a full example showing all of the various approaches presented in this article. In addition, the template files can be downloaded from the github repo.
Literacy is a fundamental human right. As a consumer, I am less concerned about word counts than I am about content. As a writer, I know I have to write tight. Every word has to count. That 8767 s the way it is. I was saddened to read about your relative who can barely read and write. The unfortunate reality in Canada is that adult illiteracy remains largely a hidden problem. For an advanced country, Canada is not doing enough to remove the barriers to literacy.
